Neuromodulators, also known as “Anti-wrinkle” injections are more commonly known for their product names Botox® or Dysport®.

These drugs are made up of purified proteins. When injected by a professional into the correct muscles, it causes the muscles to relax, resulting in smoother skin. It is essential to have a consultation with an expert to understand the proper placement and dosing to leave you looking as natural as possible.

Common Areas of Treatmnent

  • Forehead lines
  • Frown lines
  • Crow’s feet
  • Dimpled chin
  • Underarms for hyperhidrosis or “excessive sweating”
  • Dimpled chin
  • Jawline slimming

What to Expect

We will start with a consultation to understand your goals and concerns. This includes a detailed assessment of your facial anatomy. The areas will be treated according to your treatment goals. Ultra-fine needles are used to cause minimal discomfort and recommended dosages are injected into the areas required. Immediately after treatment you can have some mild redness or swelling which will resolve in less than an hour. Some bruising may occur at the site of injection.

Maximum results are seen within 2 weeks.

Some factors that affect the longevity of botox include physical activity, size of the muscle and amount of muscle use. Athletes tend to have a higher metabolism, which breaks down the toxin faster. Toxins also wear off faster in the muscles that are used most frequently. Lastly, the bigger the muscle, the quicker you will see effects diminish.

It is common for these injections to last 3-4 months, but with regular maintenance the treatments can last longer.

There is no right age to start anti-wrinkle injections, so book your appointment today to see if this treatment is right for you!

These injections are sold by the unit. Multiple units are required to receive your desired outcome.

  • Try to use the injected muscles for the first 1-2 hours after treatment: practice frowning, raising your eyebrows and squinting. This helps work Botox® into your muscles. Although this is thought to help, this will not impact your treatment negatively if you forget.

FAQs

When should I begin neuromodulator treatments?
Refresh Medaestheitcs recommends beginning regular Botox treatments once facial lines are visible at rest. Beginning early will help to delay the formation of deep wrinkles due to the movement of facial muscles.
What are the potential complications of neuromodulators?
While uncommon, complications of neuromodulator injections include mild bruising and swelling around the treatment area, headache, and a drooping eyelid. With Compass Dermatology’s expert doctors performing your injections, drooping of the eyelid is an extremely rare side effect. Complications resulting from neuromodulator injections will resolve over several weeks as the effects of the Botox wear off.
How long do the effects of Botox injections last?
The effects you’ll get from Botox injections will typically last for around 3-4 months. After that, you may begin to notice your lines and wrinkles becoming more pronounced again as your facial muscles resume normal activity. At that point, it is possible to visit the clinic for a follow-up procedure. Repeated Botox injections can continue to improve the look of forehead lines, frown lines, and other lines and wrinkles and combat the natural aging process.
Who can legally inject Botox in Canada?
According to Health Canada, the only people who should be providing Botox treatments and dermal fillers in Canada are licensed medical physicians or registered nurses with the necessary training on safely and effectively administering this treatment. All Botox treatments at Refresh Medaesthetics are administered by our licensed, trained, and experienced physicians.
What are the most obvious signs that it is time to visit a botox clinic?
As women, we are constantly judging ourselves on our appearance, and at Refresh Medaesthetics, we try to focus on the positive and what makes each patient beautiful, and how we can help enhance that beauty. There is nothing wrong with having wrinkles. However, if crow’s feet or other signs of aging are bothering you, you may want to consider treatment with a botox injectable.
